Take a moment to think about everything you do on your phone’s browser each day. Is it really something you want others to see? Luckily, it’s easier than you might think to clear phone browsing history. Much like with your computer, get a clean slate and erase everything you’ve looked for.
Before You Clear Phone Browsing History
Before you start, there’s one thing to keep in mind: there isn’t a single method for all Android devices or all iOS devices. It all depends on the browser(s) you use on your phone. Follow the steps for your browser to clear phone browsing history.
Instructions by Browser
Chrome is one of the most popular browsers for mobile devices. If you’re using it on Android, do the following:
- Open Chrome and tap More > History.
- Tap Clear Browsing Data.
- Choose All Time for your time range.
- Check Browsing History and any other items you wish to delete.
- Tap Clear Data.
If you’re using it on an iPhone, the only change is you’ll need to confirm that you want to delete your browsing history before proceeding.
Safari is the default browser for iOS devices. To clear phone browsing history on Safari, touch Settings > Safari > Clear History and Website Data. If the option is grayed out, it means there’s no history to delete.
Firefox is available for both iOS and Android. Clearing the history only takes a few steps for each device.
For iOS, tap the hamburger menu at the bottom of the Firefox window. Tap Settings. Tap Clear Private Data within the Privacy section. Select the types of data you want to delete and tap Clear Private Data.
For Android, open Firefox to the homepage. Tap Clear Browsing History in the History panel. Tap OK to continue.
In Android, you can also automatically clear phone browsing history when you exit the browser. Open the Firefox menu and tap Settings. Select Privacy and check Clear private data on exit. Choose the types of data to delete and tap Set.
If you’re using Firefox Focus, you don’t have any history to clear. The browser is privacy and security focused and doesn’t store data.
While Opera Mini isn’t nearly as popular as the previous three browsers, there’s still a chance you may be using it. It was one of the first mobile browsers to introduce a data saver feature, though Chrome has that built-in now too.
- Tap the Opera logo in the bottom right corner of your browser window.
- Tap the gear button (or Settings depending on your version) in the window that appears.
- Tap Clear browsing data.
- Check the items you want to delete.
- Tap OK to finish.
Much like Opera Mini, Dolphin doesn’t have nearly as many users as other browsers. However, it’s still popular enough to be listed as a top browser for Android and iOS. The process is even almost the same.
Tap the Dolphin icon at the bottom. Tap Clear Data. Select the types of data to delete and tap Clear Selected Data to proceed.
Remember, clearing your history not only protects your privacy, but frees up extra space on your phone.
