Facebook is a great place to connect with friends and family, but it’s not always easy to use. Thanks to some useful Facebook features, it’s easier than ever to socialize on your terms. Take charge of your News Feed and eliminate the excess by mastering a few Facebook settings.
6 Useful Facebook Features
If you need a break from a friend, group, or page, you don’t have to delete or block them. Facebook now offers a way to temporarily unfollow them. When TechCrunch discovered it, it was called Snooze, but it’s since changed to Temporarily Unfollow.
Click the ellipses beside any post and click Temporarily unfollow. You’ll stop following the person or page for 30 days. This is great for breaks or when you’ve had an argument.

It’s easy for your News Feed to become so cluttered that you can’t find anything. Plus, updates aren’t posted in chronological order. A quick way to find your closest friends’ updates or keep up with related pages is by creating lists.
It’s an old feature, but it’s one of the more useful Facebook features for socializing. You create smaller News Feeds with a limited number of people, groups, and/or pages. Under Explore on the left of your news feed, select Friends List. Choose Create List. Enter a name and search for the names of anyone you want to add. Press Create. You can edit the list at any time.
Now, you’ll see your new list on the left of your News Feed. Click it to see your limited News Feed in chronological order.
Change News Feed Preferences
Facebook’s only useful for socializing if you actually see what your friends and loved ones post. Instead, your News Feed gets cluttered with sponsored posts, game requests, page updates, and annoying details from certain friends who always overshare.
Click the down arrow at the top right of any Facebook page and choose News Feed Preferences. From here, you’re able to customize your News Feed. It’s one of the most useful Facebook features for getting the News Feed that’s right for your social needs. Prioritize people, hide apps, unfollow people, and even discover new pages.
You can unfollow people and pages at any time, but you’ll still remain connected. This is great for a cleaner News Feed.

Save Posts For Later
Did a friend share an article or video, but you don’t have time to check it out? Save it for later and then discuss it with them when you’ve got more time. Click the ellipses on any post and choose Save post. This saves the post to a list for your to view later. Simply click Saved to the left of your News Feed to view your items.
Notifications are one of the most useful Facebook features to ensure you don’t miss anything that’s important to you. Click the globe icon at the top of any Facebook page and click Settings. Choose which types of notifications to receive and how.
